I take events from my life and bring them to life on my canvases in unexpected ways. Sometimes, the more ugly the story is, the more beautiful the painting. For me, painting is freedom, rebellion, and peace. As the title indicates, this is perhaps one of the more unhappy tales I have to tell. But, in this painting, it took seven layers to bring the rough texture and a delicate swirling of crashing colors together to capture the highs and lows of the things that sometimes try to destroy us and fail.

Sometimes, you just have to be Jack Sparrow and say "Bring me that horizon." Escape's Horizon is 10 layers of paint and represents the cementing of my my brushwork style as I fully embraced The School of Abstract Expressionism as my guidepost to the resurrection of my creativity.
More importantly, Escape's Horizon expresses the exuberance of the open road and the giddiness of true freedom.

Like A Phoenix Rising
This piece moved quickly and was finished in just three days. It was an experiment in molding paste to build texture using something other than paint. In addition to the molding paste, it is one of my most uncomplicated works as it only has three layers of paint.
It was pure euphoria after a five year creative block to see my skill hadn't left me when it came to the paintbrush. I felt like the proverbial phoenix rising from the ashes when I saw it come to life.

I Could See Infinity
Often, in our deepest pits of despair, one person suddenly appears and says, "It really is going to be OK." Sometimes you need that reminder. In that moment you realize there is hope and you decide to carry on. The person who inspired this painting was the first person who told me, convincingly, that I would get through one of the most difficult thing I have ever endured. But this is what best friends do--they save us from ourselves.
